There are lots of concerns that have been targeted by the green movement as grave issues for the environment, and one of those areas is laundry. Depending on how often you wash clothes, think about all of the energy that is spent, not only in washing clothes, but drying them as well. You can save around 3 times as much energy if you use cold water as opposed to hot.

Choose to use US detergents that are recommended for cold water, and be careful of European makes, since some of them call for hot water. A good way is to have the cold water flowing into the automatic washer, then pour the laundry detergent, and then add the clothes last of all. If you pour in a small amount of baking soda, the amount of soal you need will be less. It’s a common but fallacious belief that agitating the laundry detergent, instead of the water, is what affects most of the cleaning. There are natural laundry detergents that do not hurt the environment, but you will need to search them out.

Be careful what you spend your money on, though, as it is easy to be tricked by marketing claims that could be half-baked. If possible, dry your clean clothes by hanging them up, rather than putting them in a dryer. This can save you plenty of of energy, and thus money, and your garments will naturally become whiter with the fresh air and sun. Much of the stains are set in by the heat from the dryer, so your garments can be cleaner if you choose to air dry them. Along with how you do your laundry, more simple ways exist to conserve power and green your home.

One suggestion is to simply change your lightbulbs. Ordinary light bulbs should be replaced with compact fluourescent ones, which use much less electricity. Doing this benefits the earth as well as brings down how much you pay for electricity. Reducing the time you shower is another way. Showering for half an hour rather than 15 isn’t going to make you any cleaner. You’ll use a lot less hot water in this fashion, thereby saving money. Less hot water means you save on water that you don’t use and also the power to heat it.

It should be obvious that lights need to be switched off when not in use. This goes for all electric appliances. When not required, keep things unplugged, such as phone chargers, or even your TV set. If they stay plugged in, they will contnue to use energy. Your oven can be used as a heater each time you prepare food in the winter. Open the oven door and let the heat warm up the room whenever you’re done preparing the food and have turned off the oven. Going green with energy in your home is easy and calls for the minimum of effort.

For lots of years, the only kinds of solar panels commercially offered have been crystalline solar panels put in a rectangular frame and placed on a roof. That is why most people, as soon as they think of solar power for their house, imagine this as their only option. Below are some new advancements in solar power and mounting options you may have never heard of before.

Thin Film Solar Panels – Boy Is This Skinny!

Think of the solar panel you see in a solar calculator. That is a thin film solar panel. Thin film solar panels are used to a great extent in satellites. Thin film technology is currently being extended into residential and industrial use and was named one of the best inventions of 2008 by TIME magazine.

Thin film solar panels are flexible, unlike polysilicon cells found in long-established crystalline solar panels. These thin film solar panels are being labeled as next generation solar power technology.

Thin film solar panels are more resistant to hail, dust, and so on. If a segment of a crystalline solar panel is broken, the entire solar panel will stop functioning where a thin film solar panel will continue to function.

Thin film panels can also be bendable and adapted to a lot of surfaces. They can be applied in places traditional crystalline solar panels cannot be mounted on. I have even seen a thin film panel sewed on a coat that powered a MP3 player.

The draw back to thin film panels is that they do not take up as much energy because they are so slim. These panels are not nearly as efficient as conventional photovoltaic panels but they are much cheaper. Thin film solar panels are printed onto the rolled backing, eliminating many of the high energy and chemical intensive methods that are normal in conventional PV manufacturing.

Thin film solar panels are low wattage and require more space than conventional solar panels and they are more prone to degradation. In order to counteract a few of these competitive disadvantages they have versus traditional solar panels, manufacturers give better warranties for thin film panels.

The largest thin film solar photovoltaic (PV) project in the United States is the Blythe plant located 200 miles east of Los Angeles, California. The 21-megawatt solar power plant uses thin film solar cells constructed out of cadmium telluride. At full power, the plant will create enough electricity to power an anticipated 17,000 houses.

Now let us look at conventional solar panels and several of the mounting options that are available you may have never heard of before.

Mounting Selections For Conventional Solar Panels – It’s All In the Mount

Solar panel mounts are available in three main varieties: pole mounts, roof-ground mounts, and flush mounts. With these mounts, you can fix your solar panel on your roof, onto an RV, on top of or against the side of a pole, or even install them as a free-standing unit.

Pole Mounts – No That Isn’t What Santa Claus Uses For His Sleigh

Pole mounts, especially top-of-pole, have been popular for a long time. Top-of-pole mounts are basically a steel or aluminum rack and rail structure bolted or welded to a large sleeve that sets on top of a pole with set-bolts to keep it in place. Side-of-pole mounts are usually used when you need to mount to the side of a telephone pole or communications tower. Tracking mounts are similar to top-of-pole mounts, but they also have a system of automatically aiming the mount to track the sun.

Top of pole mounts (as well as sun trackers) are one of the simplest mounts to install. They basically only need a single steel pole set in the ground (usually in concrete), and the mount slips onto the top of the pole. Most common sizes use a 2-inch to 8-inch pole, usually around 11 to 13 feet in length. They can go higher if you need to get the panel up higher to get out of shading from close by undergrowth.

Common Roof-Ground Mounts

Roof-ground systems can be mounted onto a roof or ground without a lot of deviation in setup. They are normally created from stainless steel in a grid-like system of supports. Roof-mounted panels for smaller systems are the easiest to install, using tiny flush-mount brackets which raise the panels to the most excellent angle for solar collection.

Ground mounts, as the name implies, are solar panel mounts that are installed on the ground (as opposed to a pole mount or roof mount). They have supporting, changeable legs which allow you to optimize their upright orientation for solar exposure. Ground mounting systems usually entail lots of steel supports, concrete foundations, and galvanized footings, that can be troubling, when you are attempting to keep your system low cost. Ground mounted systems call for structural strength to avert load bearing failure.

Although module mounting systems are available for ground and roof installation, roof mount installation is the most popular and cost effective system. The roof mounted panels are attached to a mounting system usually consisting of an aluminum or steel support structure which attaches the panels to the roof.

The Down Low On Flush Mounts

Flush Mounts are economical and simple to install – these are ideal for single panel installations and smaller solar arrays. Flush mounts are put onto a level face such as the top of an RV, a roof, or the top of a boat and are not used for ground installations. These mounts act to separate the solar panel from the mounting surface and allow airflow to go under and cool the solar panel for smooth operation. Flush Mounts are normally used with small solar arrays on roof tops and RVs, because the structural design of a flush mount cannot support big solar panels.

Lots of options exist in the ever changing world of solar power technology. For all you could ever want to know about solar panels and wind generators visit where can I buy solar panels

The Brussels Summit in June saw the new French President Nicolas Sarkozy succeeded in persuading the EU to drop its commitment to agree and undistorted competition from its reform treaty. Although Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes argues this will have little impact upon Brussels tough stance against cartels, illegal subsidies and protectionism; many legal experts support the stance that the new arrangement will weaken the Commissioner’s ability to crack down on such ongoing practices.

As if to rub salt in the wounds, recent comments following the approved merger between GDF and Suez by Jean-Pierre Jouyet, France, Europe Minister are likely to further inflame relations. Referring to the merger, Jouyet remarked to journalists: its a vision of what could be the energy policy for Europe? This must be particularly upsetting to Kroes who has been careful to ensure that the merger was scrutinised from top to bottom to seek out any adverse effect on competition, also making certain the disposal of assets and concessions formed the founding conditions for any potential deal.

To retaliate, Jouyet further expanded on the growing division between Paris and Brussels by saying that Kroes?unbundling plan was an ideological view, we’ve got a strategic view. It’s a better balance between EU interests and competition rules?

Since this delicate and public series of events, Kroes has made no attempt to hide her determination to fight nail and tooth against the protectionist policies of the French, German and Spanish member states. Although she remained silent during the summit negotiations, one observer believes that Ms. Kroes and her advisors were alarmed at the apparent lack of concern from liberal countries such as Britain and Sweden and also from Jose Manuel Barroso, European Commission President? Mr Barrosso seemed convinced beforehand that erasing competition as an objective had no legal bearing, since the policy was mentioned 13 times elsewhere in the treaty. However, the French government and other legal experts clearly think differently.

Whatever the legal contentions, the Commission will this month present detailed suggestions for an overhaul of ECU energy market regulations. ECU Energy Commissioner, Andris Piebalgs is predicted to proffer the integrated groups inside member states be compelled to sell their electricity grids and pipeline networks a definite initial step towards unbundling. But just how far this can be permitted to progress depends significantly on the power of the influential French and German lobbies.

So, why should a business inside a single ECU member state concern itself with what is occurring with competition policy across all of the EU? Any effort to suppress competition in Europe will have a big effect on our UK market. As we are highly dependent on Europe for most of our energy supply and as current EU practices falsely peg the wholesale gas price to the cost of oil, it is in our best interest to see a split of the unhealthy dominant forces which control and warp the market mechanism.

Examples of this distortion are at present being probed by the Commission. These concerns surround the withholding of production capacity on electricity markets with the view to raise costs.

Lastly, commentators have asserted there’s abuse of electricity balancing markets and since this is certain to have best effect on more recent entrants and therefore, for smaller players who continually rely on these sources, it’s a limiting factor on the enlargement activity of these enterprises.

Wind energy has been used for many years as individuals have used wind power for sailing, wind mills for manufacturing and pumping water and more recently conversion into electricity using wind turbines. Wind power is a renewable energy that is considered a good option instead of burning fossil fuels. Of all the renewable energy sources it is the most efficient and you only need a light breeze to produce electricity.

The very first uses of wind for energy was in the form of wind mills and sailing as people have been using wind for more than thousands of years to propel ships. Windmills have also been used for many years for milling grain as well as pumping water for irrigation. These irrigation windmills was the main reason that farming and ranching could occur in the US, as there are vast stretches of land that do not have ready access to water.

The very first usage of wind to create electricity occurred in 1888. The first wind turbine was used to create hydrogen in the 1890s but it was soon converted to producing electricity. Small wind turbines are used to provide power to rural buildings and today there are larger wind farms that are being used to produce electricity for large networks. What is known as the modern wind industry really began in 1979 when wind turbines began to be regularly produced.

Wind occurs because the surface of the earth is not evenly heated, as the poles get less sunlight than the equator. This causes cooled and heated air to move which in turn produces wind. It is projected that the amount of power that could be harnessed form the wind is more than the human population currently uses. So just think about having almost cost free power.

The amount of power that is generated by the wind is dependent on the speed and as the wind speed doubles the amount of power produced increases eight fold. However there is a cap as wind turbines can only go so fast and generate so much energy. You do not need high winds at all time though as a lot of energy can still be produced with 15 mph breezes. As such, wind power is a valuable method for alternative energy.

The main issue with wind energy is storage as wind power cannot be dispatched at different times but needs to be used immediately. Many companies have looked into different types of batteries, storing it within the energy grid and even hydroelectricity. Many times surplus energy from domestic wind turbines are fed back into the electrical grid and the energy company will purchase this energy and you will receive electricity credits.

A wind turbine used to collect the power of wind will contain a rotor shaft, gearbox and brake assembly. Generally within a wind farm the different turbines are interconnecting for power collection and communication networking. Wind energy uses induction generators to collect the power and change it to electricity.

The best types of generators are doubly fed machines as they will function when errors occur within the grid. You need to be aware of the power factor, dynamic behavior and frequency constancy when a system fault should occur.

Wind power should be thoroughly considered in order to promote a greener society. Educate your children to become future scientists by purchasing them science lab equipment.

Decades of tree and biomass research jointly conducted by Florida Statue School and Shell Energy have resulted in the planting of the biggest single energy Crop Plantation in the whole US. This Plantation spans roughly 130 acres and is home to over 250,000 planted trees including cottonwoods ( local to the area ) and eucalyptus ( which are non-invasive ) with assorted row crops such as soybeans. This organization of super trees was brought into being as a consequence of the College’s joint research with other agencies including Shell, the US Dep. of Energy, the Common Purpose Institute, and groups of different people who are working to develop alternative power sources ( those not reliant upon traditional fuels ) for the future. This research is concentrated on the planting and processing of biomass energy supplies from fast-growing crops known as closed loop biomass or just anergy crops? The project tries to development ower plants? Like wood-pulp or wood-fiber providing plants ; clean biogas to be utilised by industries ; plants like surgarcane which may be employed for ethanol development and crops like soybeans for biodiesel fuel production.

University inclusion in alternative energy research is also going on at Penn State College . At Penn State, special research is targeted on the development of hydrogen power as a real alternative power source. The analysts concerned are persuaded that humankind is moving toward a hydrogen-fueled economy because of the wishes for us to reduce air pollution and find other power sources besides petrol to power up the U. S. . Hydrogen energy burns clean and can be continually replenished, as it can be drawn from water and crop plants. Hydrogen power would thus be a sustainable energy resource to be found in the US’ own infrastructure while the planet’s supply of ( cheap ) oil tops and starts to decline. The Varsity tries to help with the commercial development of hydrogen powered fuel cells, which would be serviceable in the place of or together with piston engines for all our motor automobiles.

When President Bush recently revealed his alternative energy initiative, he determined that the governing body would develop 5 sun Grant centers for concentrated research. Oregon State Varsity has the privilege of having been selected as one of these centers, and has been allotted govt grants of $20 million for every one of the subsequent 4 years to carry out its mission. OSU will lead the way in researching alternative energy as it represents the interests of the Pacific Islands, the US’ Pacific Territories, and 9 western states.

OSU President Edward Ray announces, the analysis being conducted thru OSU’s Sun Grant center will contribute at once to our meeting President Bush’s challenge for energy autonomy.

Categorical research into alternative energy being conducted at OSU by varios groups of scientists at this time include a project to work out the easiest way to efficiently convert such products as straw into a source of renewable biomass fuel, and another one directed at studying ways to efficiently convert wood fibers into liquid fuel.

A typical U.S. family spends more than $1,600 a year on home utility bills, yet making some simple changes around the home can save money and make heating and cooling systems more efficient, according to World Energy Solutions, a publicly traded energy services company based in St. Petersburg, Fla.

By assessing facilities and hardware, World Energy Solutions ( symbol : WEGY ) helps companies lower their application consumption and upkeep costs and extend the life of their gear.

“Many of the energy-saving secrets we use for our commercial purchasers may also be applied to the home,” claims Benjamin Croxton, CEO of World Energy Solutions. “There are a lot of commonsense, low cost and no-cost paths to lower your home energy use as well as many new technologies that may be applied to your house’s energy-consuming systems.”

Here are some tips from the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy on things homeowners can do to make their homes more energy efficient:

Turn down the temperature of your water heater to the warm setting.

Use energy-saving settings on refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines and clothes dryers.

Use compact fluorescent bulbs, which can save three-quarters of the electricity employed by incandescents. First to get replaced should be any 60-watt to 100-watt bulbs that are used several hours per day.

Have your cooling and heating systems serviced in the autumn and spring. Channel sealing can also improve the energy potency and complete performance of your furnace or central air conditioner.

Clean or replace furnace, air conditioner and heat-pump filters.

Assess your cooling and heating systems to establish if you need to replace or retrofit them to make them work more effectively to supply the same comfort, or better, with less energy.

“If your house’s central air-conditioning system is over ten years of age, a new up to the minute system can save you thirty p.c or more of your house’s air-conditioning expense,” claims George Hiker , air-conditioning expert with World Energy Solutions.

Copyright 2006 Dr Phil Hariram

The idea behind employing a strong magnetic field to enhance fuel burn in internal combustion engines is nothing new. Magnetic fields were use to boost the combustion of fuel as early as 1940s. The US air force used magnets on their Mustang aircraft and produced greater range and performance from low quality fuel. In 1952, Felix Bloch and Edward Mills Purcell were jointly awarded a Nobel Prize for their work on magnetic fields on solid, liquid and gas substances.

There are 3 ways magnets save energy and fuel.

Attach a magnet to the fuel lead pipe of your burner. The magnet conditions the fuel allowing greater combustion. This happens immediately. You produce more heat for the same amount of fuel and harmful emission is cut. I have Calorgas (Liquid Petroleum Gas) central heating. Since attaching a magnet, my direct debit has been cut by 110%. If your boiler is old and inefficient, instead of buying a new boiler, try a magnet first.

In addition the cleaner burn suggests that the boiler will need less servicing and lasts longer. If your boiler is efficient, then the benefit will be less. You can’t create energy in a chemical reaction. Magnets permit as near to one hundred pc combustion. Rather than purchasing a costly new boiler, fasten a magnet.

Attach a magnet to the fuel feed of your car and your save fuel, energy and reduce emission. The magnet improves combustion. This produces better mpg, more power and a smoother running engine.

In 1992, The Warren Springs Labs , the United Kingdom Presidency DTI’s own auto testing office, were commissioned to do in depth trials on the advantages of magnetic fuel on motor automobiles and were very stunned by the result. Their 16-page detailed report confirmed increased power, improved fuel usage and a decrease in damaging emissions.

If your auto’s old with poor emission levels, the magnet will slowly clean the engine. So at first the emission will be higher than predicted but at last the level will drop seriously. A chum of mine tows a caravan with his Peugeot 2L HDi Partner Quicksilver. Since attaching a magnet his miles per gallon has jumped up another ten miles per gallon. Routinely you would expect about 10% improvement.

Magnets stop and reduce lime scale. Lime scale forms as the solubility of calcium carbonate decreases with increased temperature. As calcium carbonate separates out, lime scale is formed.

Lime scale has effects on heat transfer. A layer of calcium carbonate 25mm. Thick can decrease heat transfer by 95% and a 0.5mm layer of silica causes a decrease of ninety percent. Additionally if lime scale collects on the heating part in your hot water tank, the component won’t last long. Lime scale causes issues in washing machines.

If a magnet is attached at an angle vertical to the flow of water, it stops the lime scale deposits and breaks down the deposited lime scale. Nobody knows precisely why this occurs but the magnet keeps calcium and magnesium in solution and stops them separating out and manufacturing lime scale. It also lowers surface stress and stabilises pH. The magnetized water will defend your washer but won’t stop lime scales in your kettle. This is as the magnetic effect is neutralised when the kettle is boiled.

So there you have it. With fuel costs going upwards at regular intervals, fasten a magnet to your boiler, your water system and your automobile and save energy, save fuel, economize, reduce emission and lengthen the life of your boiler and auto.

With global warming a major current issue, it is up to each one of us to do our bit. In Germany, if your boiler emission level is too high, your pay a fine. One day it’ll come to Britain and USA. If you have emission problem, a magnet will speedily figure it out. The right magnet will keep its magnetic properties for one hundred years and you take it with you when you move home or change autos. It needs no upkeep. You simply forget it.

Due to advancements in engineering and science, photovoltaic cells, the light absorbing part of the solar panel, have become efficient enough to effectively be used as a form of power production. Many homeowners are now looking to buy solar panels online and in stores as they recognize the cost reductions that they can provide along with the benefits towards the environment.

The main part of the solar panel is the photovoltaic cell, numbers of these are linked together to create a large system of cells which together are able to provide energy needs. This type of system is known as a photovoltaic array. A solar panel will involve an array of this type, batteries, appropriate wiring and an inverter.

In order to achieve the desired levels of voltage and current the cells are connected in either series or parallel. A series circuit allows the voltages induced from each cell to be summed together produces a large voltage. Within the parallel circuit the current is increased as there is more space for more electrons to get through which is what current is (current: the number of electrons which pass through a point at one time). The photovoltaic cells currently in use today are usually made from thin crystalline silicon cells or by creating a thin film cell from cadmium telluride or silicon.

Factors that can damage the individual cells can be from moisture as this can corrode the metal contacts and also the conducting oxide layer within the thin film cells, to combat this you should ensure the casing supplied with the cells is successfully sealed to ensure no moisture can enter.

The panel must also have a reasonable amount of dexterity as impacts from rain, hail and wind can cause damage to the fragile cells. Ensuring these two factors are well controlled will assist your panel in performing to its optimum and also keep it going for longer.

Presently photovoltaic cells operate at efficiencies between about 5% and 18%; although cells have been designed with efficiencies of up to 43% they are not suitable for commercial production. From this it is reasonable to assume that panels made with different cells will produce different voltages and currents under similar conditions. As the cost associated with each cell differs, it would be helpful to determine how much power you require the panel to generate. Therefore you may not have to buy the most expensive panel available as you may not use all of the energy produced.

Heating of the solar panel is also an issue, when the photovoltaic cells heat up they start to lose efficiency as it is harder for them to absorb the light whilst hot. Therefore the need for the panel to have an efficient way of removing heat is essential. From the manufacturers specification it should be obvious as to the successfulness of the cooling system.

A new way of improving efficiency and reduces cost is through the use of lenses and mirrors, these help to focus the light from Sun onto a condensed number of high cost cells which are more efficient converters of light. The effect of this is a reduction in manufacturing costs whilst providing an appropriate amount of electricity.

You will find there are multiple steps to begin saving money by lowering your use of fossil fuels. You can learn how easy it is, when you purchase solar panel kits today! When you buy solar panels online, you will receive all of the detailed instructions you need to install the panels quickly!

What is next?

People are now attempting to turn solar energy into something we could apply everyday. This energy comes from the sun and is captured by people. Some of the cars and some homes are already using it.

Issues that could arise:

What happens when the sun goes down? This is a major problem with using this type of energy. Our house will not stay lit without it. So now we have to thing about energy storage for later. Here is another one, the electric companies feel as if we should still pay a bill. How can they continue to charge us for electric we are not using?

Why not help out.

Start using less energy during the day. As we see our sun is a huge pot of energy, waiting to be used. Install solar pads on top of your house to be your main source of energy. More cars and other things are being used with this energy. It saves you crazy money and helps the earth out.

Put money back into your pocket.

Did you know you may receive help from the government just to benefit you and the world? Many utility programs are starting to help save on your electric bill, it lowers the energy cost overall. What about your mortgage. Yes, there are some property tax reductions that you may be able to receive.

So, what is the cost?

You will be spending around $12,000 to $28,000 for an installation. In a single family home they will use about 1.5 to 3.0 watts of energy. That’s expansive, more then just a one time payment. Oh, and don’t forget this is not including any of the rebates or credits.

Synopsis of it all:

Did you ever wonder where does your electric consumption go? And did you ever wonder how are you going to save on your electric bill? Well, you need not to ask these questions without getting the right answers anymore. This article will tell you the answers to these 2 questions.

The biggest portion of your electrical consumption goes to space heating, 47% actually. This is virtually 1/2 the price of our electrical bill. The other half is shared by lighting and appliance with 24%, water heating with 17%, air-con with 6%, and refrigeration with five percent.

With this info to hand we will be able to simply determine when to start our move to keep the our electrical consumption low.

Since the largest part of our electric consumption goes to space heating, we will start here.

Insulating the parts of your house particularly the ceiling and walls save you as much as 30 percent on heating costs that equates to 15% savings on total electrical cost. Doing this may naturally need you to invest on materials that’ll be placed around your house but it is really worth the cash. Imagine a $150 savings each year by insulating your house.

Also, you can further save on heating costs if you superinsulate your house if you’re living in cooler environment.

Doing some changes around your house will definitely make a change on your electrical bill. If you live on warm climate, a shade of a deciduous tree will cool down your area which will save you on air-con. An acceptable roof and wall painting will further give you additional savings.

Covering your window with plastic coating will provide extra insulation. This will help to keep the heat from going outside as well as the cold air from going inside the house.

Sealing all of the leaks around your house will make sure the heat will stay within. Leaks will probably come from windows, doors, sills, joints and walls.

A regular upkeep check on the furnace will keep it running efficiently, so, making sure you get space heat equals the electricity consumed. A unpolluted air filter will also make sure that you get efficient air recycling as well as unpolluted air. Trickling channels will make your heating system work thirty percent more, therefore, you are using power and spending more on wasted energy.

A quarter of our electric bill goes to the lighting and appliances. Here, we’d focus on the control and responsible use of lights and electrical gizmos.

Make certain that you turn the lights off when not in use. Switch off the lights when you leave the room even for a minute or two. Switch off the stereo and TV if you’re not using them.

Reduce the thermostat of your chiller. It constitutes twenty p.c. of your house electrical consumption.

Wash your garments with cold water. You are able to save as much as ninety percent on washer’s electrical consumption if you won’t use the heating. You don’t need warn water so kill the germs on your garments. The detergent will do.

Only use the dishwasher if you plan a full load dishwashing. Dishwasher uses an identical quantity of power and water whether you full load them or not. Also, like air-drying your dishes rather than warming them within the dishwasher.

Reducing the temperature of your water heater will also help you to further reduce the cost of your home energy bill. If the thermostat of your water heater is set on 140 degrees Fahrenheit, lower it down to 120. It will be enough to give you warn water. Invest on water heater jacket. It is cheap but will certainly yield to bigger savings.

If you’re going to replace your appliance, ensure you select energy efficient ones. Energy guide details can be seen on the label of each new appliance.

Compact energy bulbs are less expensive and more energy efficient than incandescent lights. Compact lights also last 8-10 times longer than ordinary bulbs so you may also protect yourself from purchasing traditional bulbs 8-10 times.

Replace your regular showerheads with low-flow ones. This will reduce your water consumption by as much as 40%.
