Solar Panels May Be Acceptable Energy Source

Energy is a source of power that makes the world go round. Businesses, residences, automobiles, everything uses energy in some form or another. In the past, fossil fuels provided enough energy for people’s needs. However, as that resource is slowly depleted, people are turning to the energy of the sun and the solar panels that provide it, as an option.

Fossil fuel energy comes from the burning of hydro-carbon rich resources found in organic materials within the earth’s crust. The burning process is used to create steam. The steam is directed into turning the parts of turbine engines, and these in turn create electricity for the world to use. Fossil fuels are a messy energy resource that come in only a limited supply.

Solar panels provide clean and pollution free energy by capturing the light of the sun and turning it into electricity. Because the sun has a very long lifespan, measured in thousands and thousands of years, this is considered a renewable energy source. Using a solar panel for electricity is a good option.

A solar panel consists of solar cells, also known as photovoltaic cells. These are the part of a solar panel that collects the sun’s energy. It is cleanly and efficiently turned into useable electricity as a power source.

A solar panel gets its energy directly from the sun. Inside the sun, hydrogen atoms are constantly fusing with helium atoms, causing a constant stream of thermonuclear explosions. This sets off radiation, which pours over the earth as light. Panels set at the earth’s equator can catch this light and store it for use in batteries. A photovoltaic cell that is about one fifth of a meter in diameter can catch sun and turn it into two amps of energy at two volts. Space based solar paneling is even more efficient.

Typically solar panels are made from crystalline silicon. They can also be made from amorphous silicon, a newer technology that allows the panels to be thinner and more efficient. High efficiency solar cells are constructed from gallium arsenide, but this process, called molecular beam epitaxy, is ideal. That makes these particular solar panels not ideal for everyday use.

Plastic can be used in the creation of solar panels. If it were used more commonly, solar cells could for example be layered over a laptop’s screen. This would allow the computer to have almost constant power from light and the sun. Unfortunately, the plastic solar cells only put out about eleven percent of the energy normal solar cells do.

People are looking for new ways to change how they use energy and how they view energy sources. So much of what people rely on and use in their every day requires energy, to produce, consume or provide everything people use. A clean and efficient pollution free energy source like the sun can help people protect and preserve the environment. Enough light envelops the earth in a single day to provide energy for the entire world for a year. Using solar panels, this energy can be gathered and stored, without leaving a footprint on the earth’s depleting energy resources.

Change your home to the use of solar panel to save money. By going online you can even find ways of making solar panels yourself. Go there today and find out more!
