Decorating Landscapes With Exterior Lighting

You had made your house look nice and comfortable. You had made sure that its interiors are the best among others. To further stand it out, the outside of your house should also look good and nice. The best way to do that is installing exterior lighting.

There are two main reasons why you should install exterior lightings to your home. One is that you would want your house to look charming, especially during night time. Second, keeping a well illuminated yard is less likely to be burglarized. Since your yard is the extension of your home, you would want it to look attractive while keeping you and your household safe.

You may want your yard to look natural even at night. In order to do so, you need to observe the effects of natural light in your yard during different parts of the day. You may try to recreate these using artificial lights. Focus on certain focal points only that need to be illuminated during the night. You may put outdoor lighting on the pathways and certain parts of the garden that you want to accentuate. It could be the little pond, particular trees or flower beds. It is important that you are installing sufficient light – not too bright and not too dim.

It is not just about putting lights outdoors. It needs an appropriate balance between light and dark to provide the desired lighting effects. Using exterior lighting creatively and imaginatively can definitely give you the illumination you needed in a dramatic effect.

Moonlighting. Moonlighting is like recreating the light of a bright moon. It is one of the most commonly used lighting techniques outdoors. It is a lighting design wherein you are able to reflect the unique and exquisite qualities of your house and your landscape. You need to put your lights high, one good choice would be tall trees, and should be properly angled. As the light diffuses on the leaves, it creates a soft, enticing shadow and lighting patterns on the ground below.

Up Lighting. This is a type of lighting method wherein you put lighting fixtures below the object that you want to accentuate. You may want to have this kind of effect to emphasize certain architectural style and dominant features. These include sculptures, boulders, even plants or trees. It somewhat creates a mini spotlight to draw in people’s attention to the objected being illuminated.

Silhouetting. Silhouetting is placing spotlights directly behind sculptures or plants or any garden accessories and angled to an adjacent wall creating dramatic outlines of the object being silhouetted. This lighting technique is also knows as backlighting.

Shadowing. This technique is very much similar to silhouetting but instead of placing the lights directly behind the object, lighting fixtures are installed in front of them. Shadowing can create more attractive and dramatic lighting effects that silhouetting as the shadows are greatly enlarged, evoking strong moods in the garden at night.

Step Lighting. As mentioned above, one of the most critical reasons of installing outdoor lightings is for safety purposes. One major place that is prone to unnecessary accidents is the stairs. The step lighting is a lighting method that is used to provide sufficient illumination of possible hazardous obstacle or steps while giving the desired aesthetic looks.

You may want to add beauty into your outdoors by adding exterior lighting. It not only provides security and safety from the outside but shows the real beauty of your home. Or you may want to try Flush mount outdoor lighting.
